Tijdens de handelsmissie, georganiseerd door de Nederlandse Ambassade in Oekraïne van 19-22 september, werd na ontvangst door de plaats-vervangend gouverneur (zie foto) op 20 september binnen 24 uur een vergadering van de regionale Milieucommisie belegd om mij separaat te consulteren. Regionale omroep ZIK maakte een TV intervieuw en plaatste een artikel naar aanleiding van deze extra vergadering. Onderstaand de door de ambassade opgestelde vertaling.
Dutch expert will advise Lviv regional council on the problem of waste management.
In the Lviv regional council the meeting took place with the Dutch expert in the area of development and implementation of projects on solid waste management.
Independent consultant Mr Peet de Bruijn met the First Deputy Head of Lviv Regional Council Mr Peter Kolody and deputies - members of the standing committee on environment, natural resources and recreation.
Mr. De Bruijn informed, that he is visiting Ukraine for the fourth time already and that he is currently working out suggestions of waste recycling for the city of Kamyanets-Podilsky.
The First Deputy Head of Lviv Regional Council Mr Peter Kolody and the head of Environment Commission Mrs Irina Seh reported to the Dutch representative about waste related problem in Lviv region, including the situation in Lviv city with waste disposal site.
"The government has declared for many years the search of investors, but still we are facing the very large environmental problem, because we have a number of serious health problems of people living in the villages around the waste disposal site," - said Mrs. Seh.
Mr. De Bruijn advised to authorities of Lviv to start solving the problem from waste separate sorting.
"Judging from the experience of the Netherlands, the best way to recycling is waste sorting. If you have a good relationship between government and citizens - it helps in recycling. In the Netherlands 83% of waste is recycled because the residents understand the problem. What can you do is to sort paper, metal, textiles and many other wastes. 85% of this waste can be re-use if really know how to utilize waste properly, "- said the expert.
The foreign expert currently could not provide any specific proposals regarding Hrybovytskyy waste disposal site. He asked Lviv regional council for concrete data and figures regarding Hrybovytskyy waste disposal site, and he promised to study this information and provide it for consideration of foreign companies that might be interested in re-cultivation of this site.
